Research Tools Through the State Library
The South Dakota State Library has recently established direct access to many state databases. You no longer need to have a user name and password unless you are outside of the state. (If you are traveling and need access, please contact the library for the username and password.) Below are direct links to many of the popular research tools used for academic work in the junior high and high school levels.
EBSCO Host Megafile- An large database with access to newspapers, magazines, and journals. Highly recommended for education, business, or general research.
Gale Virtual Library- A database of reference materials. These are digitized versions of the reference books. This is excellent for informative research, history, medical research, and much more.
ProQuest- A Large database with access to many different journals, magazines, and newspapers. Good for all around research.
US Newsstream- A Proquest database the is specific to newspapers, magazines, and newswires.
SIRS Researcher- A database with mostly newspaper and magazine resources. It does have a unique Pro/Con section over controversial topics, so this is a good place to go for persuasive papers/speeches.
World Book Advanced- An encyclopedia version that offers much more than you can get from the print version. Good for general informative research.
