This is the first book in what is currently a series of five books (book six is soon to be released). The story centers around Michael Vey, a high schooler that is different than his classmates. Michael is small for his class and has Tourettes Syndrome that sets him apart from his other classmates. Oh yeah, one more thing...he can create electrical pulses.
One day he is attacked from a group of the school bullies and uses his powers on them. This act was witnessed by the popular and pretty cheerleader, Taylor (a girl that Michael likes). She confronts him and reveals that she also has electrical abilities. The two with Michael's normal, but highly intelligent friend Oustin, for a group called the Electroclan and find out more about where there powers originated.
In doing so, they are discovered by a group called Elgen that seeks to control the teens and force them to join their company. Soon Taylor and Michael's mother are kidnapped by the Elgen and Michael, with the help of some friends, set out to rescue them.
The story is not overly complex, but the action keeps you interested. Michael is likable character that you want to root for. If you are looking for an uncomplicated and fast read, this is a good book for you. If you like complexity to your story with twists and turns, you may want to pass on this one.
